fab five Friday

March 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 pm. Posted in fab five Friday.

Today was an impromptu day off and Josh is out of town coaching his baby brother at the state wrestling meet, so I got to sleep in and then start my to-do list early (and by that I mean “sit on the couch in my pjs and watch Parks & Rec reruns on Netflix while drinking coffee”).

MY NEW CAR
I finally bought a new car, a non college kid car! It’s a 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i hatchback. Josh and I are now officially a Subaru family. I’ve been looking for a car (not truck or SUV) with AWD, and Subarus fit the bill, but I had to find one in my price range with low miles and in good condition. This one I found on a fluke, went to look at it the next day, and bought it yesterday. It’s awesome. (Crossed off of my 30 before 30 list!)

cookies & cocoa
Anyone else love fudge stripe cookies?  We don’t buy sweets very often, but these were super cheap and Josh and I were feeling nostalgic. We drink lots of cocoa this time of year, and the cookies are a perfect pair with our after dinner snack.

#photoaday
I found this via a friend and it’s been really fun. I love looking at other people’s pictures and taking my own. I should be using my DSLR, but it’s just too bulky to carry everywhere all the time (I carry a lot of stuff to work!), so I use my phone and an app called Vignette.

wedding registries
We’ve only done a Target one so far (is anyone really surprised?), but it’s been a lot of fun. Target gives you this cute packet with a catalog of registry suggestions and some little inserts to tell people where you’re registered.

crockpot turkey chili
I found this recipe on Pinterest and we gave it a shot one night. I am very picky with my chili–I like thick roadhouse style with minimal vegetables, and this turned out perfect! We actually put in three times as much tomato paste as it calls for (on accident), but that ended up making it better. It’s also fairly healthy with the turkey, and we use organic for all of the other ingredients.  We love pairing it with corn bread, shredded sharp cheddar, and sour cream (for him), and it makes enough for dinner and several lunches.
